What I like about my job is that I can always link business to pleasure, provided I follow a tight schedule. For example, I recently had an appointment in Switzerland for a site inspection, but I decided to stay one night at Lake Como. World famous and yes, again a tick on my bucket list.
Lake Como (Lago di Como) can be found in Lombardy (Northern Italy). With an area of 146 km², it is the third largest of Italian Alpine lakes. It is also of glacial origin. The lake is situated on an altitude of 198 meters high and has a maximum depth of 425 meters. This makes Lake Como the deepest lake in Italy. In the lake there is also a small island, the Isola Comacina.
I opted for Hotel Villa Flori. The hotel is literally on the lake resulting in breathtaking panoramas. In short, a location that would fit perfectly in a next James Bond movie.
Hotel Villa Flori is set in a historic villa, one of the most beautiful on Lake Como. It was built in the 19th century by the Marquis Raimondi and subsequently became the coveted residence of a series of noble Lombard families. In 1958 the villa was converted into a hotel and completely renovated in 2011. The hotel has 53 rooms, including 7 Junior Suites and 1 Gran Lago Suite, each characterized by a dignified charm, an exceptional level of comfort and an incomparable view of Lake Como.
The check-in went smoothly, including assistance to take the luggage out of the car, so we were quickly in our room. There is little parking on the lake, but no worries, the hotel has a private parking with a tesla super charger.
As it was a last-minute booking, the room was fairly compact, but in good condition, and … with a balcony hanging over the lake. You just want to stay there … such a breathtaking view!
I dined in Ristorante Raimondi, the hotel restaurant, with a beautiful panorama on Lake Como. Romantic vibes!
I had a nice chat with the maître sommelier. Belgian? He asked me. The topic of conversation was soon about Eddy Merckx, Johan Museeuw and Sven Nys. Well, like me, he was also a cycling fanatic and he told me that a tour around the lake was about 177 km. You probably guess that I already started to have an itch. Unfortunately, this time cycling did not fit into my tight schedule. Business before pleasure.
Ravioli with Mozzarella, lamb with thyme, tiramisu … all dishes were served with style. The staff are extremely attentive and friendly, Italian flair and style! Hence, a great evening. Wine by the glass and a wide range of choice … The blissful weather made me enjoy this beautiful venue even more.
The nice dinner was followed by a good night’s sleep because although it was outside 36 degrees, you would notice nothing of the heath in the room thanks to the perfect air conditioning.
Breakfast in the garden and yes with a splendid view of Lake Como. A nice and complete breakfast.
For MICE activities, Hotel Villa Flori vaunts 3 conference rooms, each of them spacious, luminous and equipped with the latest technologies, perfect for hosting business meetings, congresses and roundtables. In addition to the venue and tech support, the hotel offers a complete assistance service to help you in organizing the event, to ensure that everything goes smoothly and to satisfy your every need, including those of the last minute.
Unfortunately, I could only squeeze in one night into my travel schedule. I will undoubtedly return here, if only for a cycling tour around this breathtaking lake.
