In February this year, a group of 14 bicycle aficionados from the MICE industry participated in #micellorca17 on the beautiful Balearic island of Mallorca. Micellorca is an initiative by Erik Wood, CEO and founder of Eventonline. The positive vibes and camaraderie among the MICE professionals who participated in this bike incentive resulted in the organization of a second edition that runs from 20 to 24 February, 2018.
“To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect,” says Erik Wood. “I have a very personal and emotional bond with the island. In 2015, Mallorca left a strong impression on me and since then I’ve been returning to the island several times a year for cycling. In short, it has almost become my second home.”
Erik was therefore curious how his ‘teammates’ would experience Mallorca. “The squad was very heterogeneous regarding its skill level, from recreational cyclists to fierce racers. However, it turned out that the riders formed a tight knit group from the very start. Indeed, devouring together the many miles on the Mallorcan asphalt helped forging a bond quite fast. Perhaps the most meaningful thing I’ve ever done in my career. Bringing people together and motivating them to do sports,” says Erik. “Many months later, the MICE cyclists are still in contact with each other. I was therefore obliged to organize a new edition.”
For this second edition, Erik Wood already has a scoop. The ‘Cannibal from Baal’, cycling legend Sven Nys, will take part and will be coaching the team! The ‘Emperor of the Cycling Cross’ will also deliver a keynote speech during a seminar about the factors that have been important and especially motivating for the realization of new challenges in his life. Important elements such as teamwork, intrinsic motivation, focus and enthusiasm are featured in a motivational presentation that will be richly illustrated with interesting examples.
However, with this second edition, Erik Wood takes the event to a next level. #micellorca18 also becomes a fundraiser for the fight against cancer. “In 2014, I myself was confronted with the disease. In recent years, I have put a lot of energy into fighting it, first for myself, but also helping others, people who are experiencing difficulties trying to motivate themselves.”
Hence, his call to the event industry to massively support #micellorca18. “We are with 23 riders and Sven Nys, so our target is to collect 20,000 euros for cancer research,” according to a determined Erik Wood. “Eventonline reaches the entire event sector with more than 1,000 advertisers, so I think we can race together this sum,” a motivated Wood believes.
Supporting #micellorca18 can be interesting for companies, since a tax certificate will be presented for a donation from 40 euros onwards. A donation of 250 euros also equals a mention on social media, and for the amount of 1,000 euros, a photographer will visit the company! Eventonline will deposit a first amount of 500 euros.
At the next MICE party the collected amount will be announced!
#micellorca18 will take place from 20 to 24 February, 2018 and the MICE squad will stay at the Lindner Hotel Portal Nous.
Fred Rompelberg Bicycle Holidays will be responsible for the technical support with professional guidance and coaches.
