Great interest at Spring Meeting 22 March 2023
More than three years after its last official meeting, BECAS vzw, the professional federation representing the economic and political interests of all event caterers and banquet halls with in-house catering (NACE 56,210), gathered last Monday at Zaal Rijvissche in Zwijnaarde/Ghent.
It was a warm reunion for more than 60 event caterers who came to listen to chairman Steven Droogers’ plans after the originally de facto association was transformed into a non-profit organisation during the Corona crisis.
In recent years, BECAS vzw mainly contributed behind the scenes through the active participation of its board members within Horeca Vlaanderen, Unizo and Event Confederation. However, now that most caterers finally have a full working year behind them, the association wants to refocus on its original mission: “to bring together and inspire like-minded professionals through meetings”.
After testimonials from Jan Van Eyck (Van Eyck Catering) and Jan Verhelle (Diner Privé), among others, it became clear that, like them, those present were particularly concerned about rising prices, the structural shortage of trained staff and maintaining healthy margins in the sector.
The evening ended with a culinary walking dinner provided by Gourmet Invent and Sligro-ISPC.
About BECAS
BECAS (becas.be) was founded in 2017 as a quality label and de facto association to share inspiration among its founding members through events. The 15 original members are mainly from Flanders. Since 2020, BECAS has maintained close partnerships with UPT (French-speaking event caterers with members mainly from Brussels and Walloon Brabant) and Confederatie Events (umbrella organisation bringing together event sector federations). Since 2022, BECAS was transformed into a non-profit organisation and aspires to unite all event caterers and banquet halls with in-house catering (NACE 56,210) as a recognised professional federation.
