In April, a new NIS2 (Network and Information Security) directive was approved that requires companies in critical sectors to take cybersecurity measures. This legislation also has an impact on the event sector.
A recent study* shows that only 1 in 2 companies take the most common cybersecurity measures to heart. Yet cybersecurity is a real threat, with a major impact on our economy and society. The results of the study are therefore alarming!
That is why a new NIS2 (Network and Information Security) directive was adopted in April. That directive requires companies working in critical sectors (energy, transport, banking, health …) to take cybersecurity measures. These measures will be extended to other sectors later this year.
Since a lot of our event companies work directly or indirectly with or for companies in these critical sectors, this legislation also has an impact on our sector. If, as an SME, you do not fall under the NIS2 scope but your client does, they may be able to impose requirements. Some companies are already adding additional requirements in their tender forms.
From October 2024, the European NIS2 directive will require companies in many new sectors to implement strict security principles and risk management measures. The impact of NIS2 will be significant, as companies working with companies covered by the NIS2 directive will also have to implement similar measures.
Does your company fall within the scope of NIS2? Take the test! In the NIS2 quick start guide, the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium provides more information on NIS2 and a concrete roadmap to comply with the requirements. VLAIO also offers cybersecurity help and support.
From 18 October, it will also become mandatory to notify cybersecurity incidents. The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) will evolve from a supporting to an observing and sanctioning body. The CCB offers a lot of information on this for companies. For more information or questions, contact the CCB’s NIS Team at nis@ccb.belgium.be.
