The Charles Péguy high school in Louvain-la-Neuve has completely reinvented itself and, after that bold transformation, has become Fabula Event Communication Campus, a very special school entirely dedicated to event management and all that it entails. Exciting, now that the new school year is just around the corner!
After thorough research, the school has chosen an innovative teaching method: reverse pedagogy where students learn theory through practice (instead of the other way around, as in the old system). This way of working places students at the centre of their learning, offers them unprecedented flexibility and effectively prepares them for future challenges. Since learning is a lifelong journey, already active event professionals are also given the opportunity to learn new skills through a cooperative. Industry professionals, organisations such as the Event Confederation and experts are involved to share their knowledge from the field.
This new pedagogical approach is suitable for students who have started a classical university course but find that it does not suit them, for final-year students with a passion for events, but also for students graduating through middle grades, for whom compulsory education was a difficult path and who did not obtain their secondary education diploma.
Fabula Campus is unique thanks to its reverse pedagogy, virtual campus, NFT diploma, etc. The school can therefore become a role model for training future young adults and active professionals of all ages, and a reference for the various authorities. Indeed, Belgium faces a major challenge today: the education of tomorrow is being considered, and those discussions will only intensify.
‘It is crucial to reinvent our education to prepare future generations for the labour market. We will continue to teach based on principles from the last century. In 2024, we need creative and innovative people, whereas in the 20th century we were looking for parrots! When I heard about Fabula, I was excited to apply the methods and principles I use as an MBA professor and business leader. I will be the mentor of the Connect part of the new programme, where we will explore the power of networks, ecosystems and personal branding,‘ explains Alain Heureux, godfather of Fabula Campus’ Connect programme.
Moreover, Fabula Campus does not limit itself to adopting innovative pedagogy, but acts as a real educational laboratory, where Anglo-Saxon methods are not only tested, but also adapted to our Belgian context.
At the head of the school are Julie Cruyt, General Director, and Géraldine Génicot, Academic Director. It was a conscious decision to place women at the head of the school. They are supported by a board of directors made up of well-known personalities in the sector: Patrick Parmentier, co-founder of VO Communication and Anne-Sophie Snyers, co-founder of BTC (Belgian Travel Confederation).
‘We consulted the best university faculties specialised in event communication, interviewed former students, approached lecturers and interviewed numerous sector actors. We thought collectively and decided to reverse the learning path. We came up with Fabula Campus to grow you and so that your future is yours,’ explains Patrick Parmentier, co-founder of Fabula.
’ At Fabula Campus, our ambition is to give students roots – meaning – and wings. With more than 50 years of experience in education, surrounded by key figures from the events sector and the Belgian and international entrepreneurial world, we offer you an education that matches your ambitions: YOU decide who YOU want to be. The world is changing, and so are our teaching methods. Fabula opens doors for you to countless professions. ’, adds Anne-Sophie Snyers, co-founder of Fabula.
