Limburg-based family firm Oostwegel Collection has appointed Maastricht-based Bastiaan Klomp (46) as the new director/host of Château St. Gerlach & Operations Director of Oostwegel Collection. Klomp is an old friend of the company, having previously held executive positions there.
Klomp was director/host of Winselerhof from 2010 to 2014, and then of the Kruisherenhotel Maastricht until 2018. After working for Oostwegel Collection for over nine years, Klomp became General Manager of Thermae 2000 in Valkenburg and then Region Casino Manager for Holland Casino. Klomp will start in his new position on 1 April.
Return to family business
About his return, Klomp says the following: ‘It feels wonderfully familiar to be back home at this wonderful family business after seven years. In my dual role, I will passionately dedicate myself to top gastronomy and hospitality in these special monumental surroundings.’ In his role as director/host of Château St. Gerlach, Klomp will focus on further expanding the opportunities the historic estate has to offer and raising the level of the two restaurants, Les Salons and Mayor Quicx, even further.
Camille Oostwegel, Owner and Managing Director of Oostwegel Collection, is delighted with the arrival of Klomp as a new member of the board. ‘For Château St. Gerlach, we were looking for an enterprising and connecting director/host. With Bastiaan we have found that, he understands like no other what our company stands for. That also makes him more than suitable as our Operations Director, a position in which he will be partly responsible for running the operation in our other houses.’
Big ambitions
Oostwegel has big ambitions for Château St. Gerlach. ‘We are going to welcome even more guests to this beautiful estate this year. As the first and, for now, only five-star superior hotel in the region, we have an enormous amount to offer them with, among other things, our own kitchen garden, spa & wellness, and many possibilities for events, weddings and conferences in the St. Gerlach Pavilion. ‘I am convinced Bastiaan will play a valuable role in realising our ambitions.’
