‘Gran Hotel Son Net’ is a luxury boutique hotel carefully hidden in the mountains of the Sierra de Tramuntana, part of the UNESCO heritage of Mallorca. The Son Net estate dates back to 1672 and reflects a typical Mallorcan style. The colonial influence is clearly noticeable in the Gran Hotel Son Net’s rooms and suites: beautiful four-poster beds and immaculate marble bathrooms. The classical heritage, exclusive luxury services, the varied and attractive range of culinary dishes are undoubtedly the strongest assets of the Gran Hotel Son Net, one of the most beautiful boutique hotels on the island.
Eventonline is always on the lookout for ‘unique’ venues, and this one should not be missed! We will undoubtedly discover and discuss the hotel and all its facilities in the future, however, this time we opted to check out the hotel’s restaurant ‘Oleum’. Sometimes, when you enter a nice facility, from the moment you step in, you have this feeling ‘let’s take it slowly and enjoy every second of it’ because it was awesome!
The restaurant offers a stylish and intimate setting with centrally located an original 17th-century olive oil press. However, the press is no longer operational, nevertheless it is completely ready for use. The chef and his team offer a selection of innovative Mallorcan dishes, using modern techniques with local ingredients. By the way, the word ‘Oleum’ is Latin for olive oil, considered as the liquid ‘gold’ of the Mediterranean.
Entering the restaurant, I was immediately welcomed by Ignacio, the Food & Beverage Assistant Director. Because I was the first guest, he let me pick a table for two. Still impressed by this venue, I opted for a table at the back of the restaurant. This way, I had a perfect view of the whole place. The tables were all stylishly dressed. By the way, a general note for Mallorca (or Spain), the restaurants open their doors later, but the service runs very smoothly and fast, I love it!
As an aperitif my teammate chose champagne. A Pol Roger was served! Excellent choice! Since it is a habit of mine, I always opt for a local beer and they served me a nice local brew from the Granada region.
As an appetizer, I choose a beef carpaccio with summer truffles from Mallorca. My table companion a focaccia with goose liver, figs and the same summer truffles, a top dish by the way! The main course for my table companion consisted of a tasty risotto with gambas and for me sea bass with grilled vegetables, very delicious. During the meal two wines were served, my local favourite 12 Volt of Mallorca and then a Sonnet (Syrah), an absolute top-notch wine with a little more body which is a produce from the hotel’s own vineyard.
As a dessert we had small éclairs with cappuccino ice cream.
Is this a restaurant I would return to? Absolutely! Preferably once a month! Besides, the owner also owns the beautiful Château Eza (see my review via this link). However, I prefer Oleum. – Wood Approved!
