From next summer, Alden Biesen will open the doors of the moated castle to the general public. To this end, the Landcommanderij will deepen and strengthen its museum pillar, in addition to its existing event operation.
As one of Flanders’ most beautiful and largest cultural heritage sites, Alden Biesen is already internationally known for its cultural events such as the Summer Opera or the International Storytelling Festival. With this museum addition, Alden Biesen wants to enhance the experience at the estate while attracting a new target audience to put Limburg even more on the map as a cultural destination.
In addition to the evocative stories of the Teutonic Order of Knights and its own history, the 800-year-old site has the ambition to enter into a dialogue with the present and highlight socially related themes. Temporary exhibitions will help strengthen the permanent collection. The appointment of new staff will provide the necessary acceleration in this respect.
