Jan Simons left Mechelen-based congress agency Meet in early January to devote himself to a brand new congress centre for 2,500 people. Flemish tourism minister Zuhal Demir is earmarking 10 million euros for this. The new centre should come to the site of the Nekkerhal by 2028 at the latest.
“We are extremely happy that this congress centre is coming to Mechelen,” says alderman for culture and tourism Björn Siffer. “This way, we can really play on an international level as a congress city after all.”
“Moreover, the new centre will also have a cultural function. “Also bigger theatre and music productions can now come to our city, which is very nice news,” says Björn Siffer.
