On the eve of the summer holidays, a big party took place at Technopolis that anyone involved in science communication could not miss. On 28 June not only were chairman Luc Van den Brande and board members Theo Peeters and Paul Lagasse bid farewell, but the newly composed board team under the chairmanship of Frank Beckx was also introduced. For this prestigious announcement of the end and the beginning of an era, Einstein, the largest hall in Technopolis, was brought in.
A built-in wall divided the hall into two independent areas. The part for the academic session was completely darkened, which did projected images particularly well. This applies doubly to the visually stunning scientific experiments, which have become a feature of events at Technopolis. Former chairman Luc Van den Brande, for example, literally passed the torch on to his successor Frank Beckx, and the unveiling of the memorial plaque of the Van den Brande Auditorium with a nitrogen test was given a particularly misty touch. On stage, memories were recalled, there was the occasional laugh and, together with Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon, the audience looked ahead to the future of science communication in Flanders.
Before and after the official part, people chatted pleasantly over a drink in the second part of Einstein. Thanks to the large glass sections overlooking the iconic red cone of Technopolis, the room was bathed in summery evening light. For the interior, a cosy lounge corner was chosen in combination with bar tables. A succession of luxurious snacks and a musical intermezzo with a harp made this historic event at Technopolis complete.
