At the request of Dutch concert and festival organiser MOJO, Veldeman developed the new festival structure TFS Big Mouth, whose full-width façade can be automatically opened and closed. This allows the organisation to create an open stage during the day and a more intimate setting at night with limited sound transmission to the surroundings. A first in the festival world!
For the Down The Rabbit Hole and Lowlands festivals, Dutch concert and festival organiser MOJO was looking for a new, flexible festival structure that can be easily opened and closed. During the day, this structure should allow the audience to also enjoy the performances outside. Indeed, the capacity of the closed festival tents used before was insufficient. For the evening programme, on the other hand, the festival structure should be able to be closed to create a more intimate setting and limit sound transmission to the surrounding area. A challenge for Veldeman, now an established name at many European festivals.
Veldeman developed the 50m-wide TFS Big Mouth. The full-width façade of this new festival structure can be opened and closed electrically in just 10 minutes. Acoustic cloths, which are already fixed to the façade during construction, also limit sound transmission to the surrounding area. Two special emergency exits are also provided in the façade.
The TFS Big Mouth was successfully launched at both festivals last summer, creating the ideal atmosphere at any time of day. Sebastiaan Saarloos, Production Manager at Mojo: “Thanks to good cooperation, we arrived at a suitable solution that perfectly meets our expectations. With the TFS Big Mouth, we have a semi-open-closed stage that allows us to easily switch between day and night.” For the upcoming edition, this special TFS will also provide shelter for festival-goers.
Rolf Van Moer, Manager Technical Department at Veldeman: “For the development of this new festival structure, we called on our experience in the military sector where we previously applied this technology at our military aircraft hangars. Here we developed the ‘Big Mouth’ principle at the time as an alternative to traditional gate systems, with a view to efficient logistics and fast assembly time.”
