Interview with Joaquin Egea, Pullman Barcelona Skipper

During the IBTM trade fair in Barcelona, the team of Eventonline lodged in the Pullman Barcelona Skipper, a strategically located hotel. Olivier Wauters had a chat with Joaquin Egea, the Communication Manager.

“The hotel opened in November 2006. I started to work here first in the sales department, and I am currently developing tasks for Communication, Social Media and Social Events”, Joaquin Egea introduces himself.

“Although the hotel opened in 2006, it became part of AccorHotel in 2010. The owner was very passionate about the sea. He decided to design a hotel inspired by it. So he found an architect who designed this peculiar building. Have you noticed that everything in this hotel has sharp points and corners? It has rusty coloured walls, wooden floors. All references to ships and the sea.”

The hotel boasts an excellent strategic location. Barcelona has three main points of attraction, i.e. the historic part downtown, the Olympic Village and 22@ which is a new area of urban renewal specifically designed to be a hub for international companies and start-ups. The said area makes a triangle on a map. The hotel is in the Olympic Village, which is the vertex in the middle of that triangle. “The closest metro station lies within a 3 minutes walk an after 3 stops you are in Plaça de Catalunya, the heart of the city,” explains Joaquin Egea. “Or take the tram, also within 3 minutes walking distance and after 6 stops you are at 22@. We are in the hotspot of Barcelona.”

The Pullman credo is ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’. “We have excellent MICE facilities to work hard during meetings and conferences, but we also have plenty of leisure at the hotel and close by: swimming pool, seafront, beach, restaurants, tapas etc. Moreover, we can very quickly convert the hotel in whatever you may need.”
