Le Plongeoir: Iconic Location and Excellent Food

Occupying an iconic location in Nice, hovering above the sea on the famous pillar of rock and the base of the diving boards themselves, the restaurant ‘Le Plongeoir’ (the diving board) welcomes you in this most unusual setting, steeped in history. It offers a friendly and convivial cuisine with a modern Mediterranean influence, prepared with fresh, seasonal market produce.

At the end of the nineteenth century a stylish fishing boat was secured onto the rock. During La Belle Époque, guests could eat and drink tea perched six meters above the waves. This restaurant, which was connected by a walkway to a charming gazebo, typical of that era on the French Riviera, soon became emblematic of the city of Nice.

Following damage to the fishing vessel in 1941, architect René Livieri was commissioned to bring new life to the site, giving rise to the diving boards on the seaward side with a beach restaurant replacing the gazebo.

Many years later, following the closure of the beach restaurant, the diving boards were abandoned but kept a special place in the hearts of the citizens of Nice and its silhouette still remained part of the cultural heritage of the city.

Today, the restaurant Le Plongeoir, which opened its doors in June 2015, strives to bring new life to this amazing location whilst respecting its history and enhancing its natural charm. The restaurant is owned by Marc Dussoullier a restaurant owner of the region.

In its ‘short’ existence, Le Plongeoir already received the ‘Maître Restaurateur’ Award, which is a state title that means that its cuisine is homemade, on site, with fresh products. This autumn, the restaurant is about to receive another award, i.e. the ‘Prix Qualité Tourisme’. The ceremony will take place at the restaurant in October, with influential politicians of the Nice area and many more professionals of the industry.

This reward is given to establishments that engage themselves in the satisfaction of their clients through the respect of criteria like the access for persons with reduced mobility, engagements in favour of the environment or the contribution to the promotion of the region.

Le Plongeoir can be booked for private and corporate events. It has three different event rooms, completely independent from each other and you can rent one or more depending on the number of guests and the type of event you want to organize: a birthday celebration, a wedding or a baptism but also business related corporate events.

The restaurant is closed from January until mid-March.

Le Plongeoir is a must do if you’re in Nice. Iconic location and excellent food! Fresh products with daily other suggestions. Appetizers we have taken: salad and sea bass, risotto, summer truffle, fine wines by glass. All good! Valet parking (5 €) available as well. – Wood Approved!
